If there’s one thing guaranteed to get the jungle drums banging in the world of freelancing, it’s a change to Upwork fees for freelancers. A BIG change to the fees, which will force all Upwork freelancers to pay for “Upwork Connects” in order to bid for jobs, was announced in April 2019. This article explains all of the key Upwork fees for freelancers. It looks at the 2019 changes (which are proving extremely controversial) and discusses how much freelancers have to pay for Upwork Connects. I also potentially add to the controversy by giving my own opinion on Upwork’s fees…

Many people arrive at this site looking for ways to make some extra money. It’s well worth checking out the thousands of temporary census jobs being offered across the US. These jobs, which are on offer right now and include census taker positions, involve providing support for the forthcoming census of 2020. I was kindly alerted to these jobs by a HomeWorkingClub reader (thank you!) This post describes how these census jobs work, what they pay, and how to apply. Census work is completely legitimate, and pays upwards of around US$15 per hour. There are opportunities in all US states, and in…

This article introduces UHRS (the Universal Human Relevance System) and provides regular updates on what’s known about the availability of jobs on the platform in different places across the world. The information here was last updated on 4th February 2019. What is UHRS? UHRS stands for Universal Human Relevance System. It’s a web-based platform for online work, accessed via ClickWorker, a micro-working platform. UHRS provides small jobs (known as HITS) for home workers, usually involving categorizing and verifying the accuracy of online information. As discussed in our detailed review of ClickWorker, UHRS can prove a rich source of simple but relatively well-paid…

Some of the most well-known companies in the world offer legitimate work from home jobs. Despite this, I receive lots of emails from people who seem disheartened about not being able to find anything suitable. If you’re one of those people, I hope this article provides some hope. As well as introducing some prestigious companies that hire remote workers, there’s some interesting news on an upcoming “virtual job fair.” I’ve not seen anything like that before, so be sure to read to the end to hear about it. Top Household Name Companies Offering Legitimate Work from Home Jobs FlexJobs has…

I can’t quite believe I’m writing HomeWorkingClub’s final post of 2018! However, I’m really excited to share some plans for 2019. They’re all designed to help home workers and freelancers thrive – into next year and beyond. The site has come on leaps and bounds since its inception. I keep seeing pleasing statistics, including rising monthly visitor numbers and positive metrics around how long people stay on the site. In less than two years, HomeWorkingClub has gone from helping hundreds of people each week to helping thousands each day. A definite highlight of 2018 was reading positive responses to the survey we…

IMPORTANT NOTE: This post contains offers from Black Friday 2018 which will now have expired. However, links to companies will still function and lead to products at full price. Please ensure you check what you’re buying! Ah, Black Friday. The ever-growing annual retail event that seriously divides opinion. On one side you have the people who set their alarms to queue up for bargains at local malls; On the other, those who hate the tacky celebration of commercialism and tut disdainfully at the annual video footage of human beings fighting over discounted flatscreen TVs. I’m firmly in the latter camp. However,…

I’m feeling rather “down with the kids” this week, after finally getting around to establishing a presence on Instagram! As I discussed in a post last week, the vision behind HomeWorkingClub is as much about living  a “freelance lifestyle” as it is about making money. In some cases, there’s even a trade-off between money and freedom, and a point where people have to decide whether to work to live or live to work. Before moving back to the UK in 2015, I spent several years living in Portugal (whilst there I quite literally wrote the book on it – you’ll…

Have you ever wondered whether there are any Apple work from home opportunities? I’m pleased to tell you there are! Apple work from home jobs have been reported on across the web this week, in publications including Entrepreneur. These home-based jobs with Apple are Apple “At Home Advisor” roles, and there are also some supervisory and area manager positions. Based on the reports that have sprung up online, Apple are recruiting for these in the US at present. However, reading about these Apple work from home opportunities triggered me to do a bit of wider research, and it appears that…

There’s been some encouraging news about freelance earnings this week. According to an analysis conducted by the University of Westminster Business School, freelance earnings have seen strong growth over the past five years. Meanwhile, average hourly rates have remained relatively stagnant for employed staff – not rising enough to provide a meaningful increase once rising living costs are taken into account. Looking at the figures, which were calculated using data from the PeoplePerHour job board, freelancers typically earn an average hourly rate of GB£20.73 (around US$27). This is 36% more than the average rate for an employed staff member in the…

When I started HomeWorkingClub a few months ago, I began a website timeline to keep track of key milestones in the development of the site. Website projects are not really suited to people who are looking for instant gratification. It takes a considerable amount of time to build traffic, outreach to other sites, and establish any kind of following. It takes longer still to establish any meaningful stream of income! HomeWorkingClub remains very much at the start of its website timeline, but there are still some achievements to be cautiously proud of. As an impatient individual, it’s sometimes down to…
